Below is a list of good resources that we have complied to help you in your journey in becoming an aviator. A good pilot is one that is always learning and there is much to learn. When you’re not actually flying these resources will further your knowledge and help you in your studies.


Airplane Flying Handbook - Maneuvers and procedures for all phases of flight training.

Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge - Ground school knowledge for Private Pilot and Commercial Pilot certificates.

Risk Management Handbook - Information and procedures on how to manage risk in an aircraft.

Airmen Certification Standard - This tells you everything you need to learn and know for your pilot rating and even tells you what and how the examiner will grade you on.

Aviation Weather - FAA Weather theory for pilots and flight operations personnel.

Federal Aviation Regulations - Online version of the FARs.

Aeronautical Information Manual - AIM is the supplement to the FAR regulations and describes how to follow those regulations.

Weight and Balance Handbook - Weight and balance examples and information.

Aerodynamics for Naval Aviators - A deep dive and fantastic resource for the aeronautics of flying.

Chart Supplement - Online version of an AFD or chart supplement

Airmen Knowledge Test Questions List - A list of example test questions

Advisory Circulars - Written by FAA to explain and update rules and regulations

Non-Towered Airport Flight Operations AC - This AC 90-66B calls attention to regulatory requirements, recommended operations, and communications procedures for operating at an airport without a control tower or an airport with a control tower that operates only part time.

Integrated Airman Certification and Rating Application (IACRA) - IACRA is the web-based certification/rating application that guides the user through the FAA's airman application process.

Personal Minimums Checklist VFR - Printable Personal Minimums form for flight and final decision to fly.

Passenger Safety Briefing - Printable passenger briefing checklist for use in the cockpit.

Fly the Wing In-Flight Maneuver Videos - Garry Wing is an instrument-rated commercial airplane and glider pilot and a certificated instrument flight instructor (CFI-I) who has created a series of wonderful videos explaining and demonstrating many of the maneuvers needed to become and stay proficient as a pilot.

AOPA Videos - AOPA Air Safety Institute creates super videos on topics covering fuel management, collision avoidance, weather, passenger briefings, emergency procedures, survival tips, and more.

AOPA Student Resources - Being a student pilot is about more than just mastering the fundamentals of flight: It’s about exploring a whole new world with its own language, skills, and opportunities. To help you do that, AOPA has a catalog of great resources.

Pilot-Controller Communications - The National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) have developed a collection of information cards covering a variety of important topics.

FAA Airman Testing - FAA resource for Airman testing including Practical Test Standards, Airman Certification Standards, Airman Certificate Testing Service (ACTS), Computer Testing Supplements, Sample Airman Knowledge Test Questions and more.

  • FAA PSI Exams - go to this site to schedule your Airmen Knowledge Exam at a convenient location.

  • Learning Statement Reference Guide for Airman Knowledge Testing - This reference guide contains the listings of Learning Statements and Learning Statement Codes for airman knowledge testing. It includes codes for pilots, remote pilots, instructors, flight engineers, dispatchers, navigators, pilot examiners, inspection authorization, parachute riggers, and aircraft mechanics.

kGBR Automated Weather Advisory System - This is GBRs own version of an AWOS. Note that this data is ADVISORY. This is not a certified weather observation but will give you winds and altimeter setting at the airport.

NOAA Aviation Weather Center - This site is the “go to” weather source for pilots. The Aviation Digital Data Service (ADDS) makes available to the aviation community text, digital and graphical forecasts, analyses, and observations of aviation-related weather variables.

METAR/TAF Abbreviations - A printable list of many, if not all the METAR/TAF abbreviations.

Sunrise/Sunset Calculator - This calculator can be used to calculate sunrise, sunset, and civil/nautical twilight for any place on Earth by entering Latitude and Longitude.
